José Adelantado

José Gimeno Adelantado, has a degree in Economics from the University of Barcelona and a PhD in Sociology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Since 1992 is Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology of the UAB. He has been principal investigator on several competitive projects with public funding (DIGICYT, AECID). In 1996 launched the SAPS research group (Seminar of Social Policy Analysis, and was its first coordinator); since 2002 is a senior researcher at IGOP (Institute of Government and Public Policy, and has been a member of its board).

He is the editor of the book Cambios en el Estado de Bienestar: políticas sociales y desigualdades en España, Icaria Editorial: Barcelona, 2000) has published several articles in professional and academic journals (Papers, International Journal of Sociology, Journal of Sociology, Journal of European social Policy, Mientras Tanto, Societat Barcelona, Carrer), and is the author of many chapters in books on welfare policies in areas such as pensions, housing, immigration, basic income, social services, and inclusion plans. He has developed teaching and research stays in several foreign centers (National University of Rosario, Argentina (2006), Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Sao Paulo, Brazil (2007), Univerisdad Autónoma Metropolitna (UAM-Xoximilco)-Mexico (2008, where was hired as a visiting professor), Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Florianópolis, Brazil (2010).

His main area of interest are the welfare states in Europe and Latin America. His research has focused on various aspects such as formation, content and impact of social policies according to the social structures in Spain, the comparative analysis of welfare states in Europe, and the relationship between democracy and inequality in Latin America.
