Kon-Turi Atan Rodríguez

Kon-Turi Atan Rodríguez holds a degree in Education, History, and Social Sciences, and a master’s in Educational Policies from Universidad Alberto Hurtado (Chile). He is currently a doctoral researcher at the Department of Sociology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and a member of the research group Globalization, Education, and Social Policies (GEPS). His primary research focuses on the history of education and educational policies in Rapa Nui (Easter Island) and the impact of schooling on territories with predominantly indigenous populations. His doctoral dissertation focuses on analysing the educational inequalities that have affected the Rapa Nui community. Through a longitudinal study spanning from 1937 to 1988, he explores how educational policies implemented on the island have shaped the educational trajectories of Rapa Nui students. Drawing on school records and in-depth interviews, the study examines how historical, social, and cultural factors have influenced the educational experiences of indigenous students and how they have responded to these processes of change. The findings of this research will contribute significantly to understanding educational dynamics in insular and culturally diverse contexts.
